Field Visit at Pharping Vajrayogini Temple
Sugata Buddhist College observed educational field visit at Pharping Vajrayogini temple on 09 Paush 2079 (24 Dec 2022) Saturday. On the day, the surrounding sites like Asura Cave, self Originated Tara and Ganesh temples were also visited by the college team, which includes all faculty members, students and Staff of Sugata Buddhist College and Member of Nepal Buddhist Council.
During the session, offering process as per Bajrayana tradition i.e. “Mamaki and Kalash puja”, which is known as “Bakashimatho Puja” in Newar Buddhism, was performed. Lecturer Mr. Shanta Shree Bajracharya performed puja as a “Mulacharya (Priest) while the Principal Ms. Sunita Bajracharya was present as ‘Jajaman’. Lecturer Mr. Birat Raj Bajracharya (Tibetan translator, Buddhist scholar-practitioner) explained the meaning of the proceeding of the puja to the group.
After the puja was over, there was a brief program in the courtyard where Ms. Bidya Shakya, administrative officer of the college, acted as an emcee. Principal Ms Bajracharya made her remark on the purpose of the educational field visit and importance of it. Similarly Lecturer Puspa Raj Bajracharya narrated the historical background of Vajrayogini as per Swoyambhu Puram, Lecturer Milan Shakya introduced Vajrayogini as Naropa’s Dakini (Naro mkha’ spyod) and its story and beliefs (the story of how Naropa met Vajrayogini for the first time, and how she was established in Pharping etc).
With the meaningful puja process and the proper introduction of the place and it surrounding important sights, SBC concluded the field visit in much excitement and knowledgeable way. The collage therefore is encouraged to observer similar programs in future too.
